Medico Legal Experience

Having prepared Personal Injury Reports (PIR) from 1982 as a Senior Registrar and more complex PIRs and Clinical Negligence Reports from 1986 as a Consultant Cosmetic, Reconstructive Plastic & Hand (non-bony) Surgeon, instructed for both Plaintiff and Defendant and, post-Woolf, as Single Joint Expert to the Court, I have built up a very considerable depth and breadth of knowledge and experience in this field, having produced well over 1000 Reports over the years, at an average of 60 per annum. During this time, I have kept abreast of changes not only in medical and surgical practice, both in general and in my areas of expertise, but also in the altering requirements pertaining to Medical Experts in Medico Legal practice. An additional benefit of Medico Legal practice results from the extended one-on-one time spent with clients (often the only single medical overview of their case ever to occur), which not uncommonly reveals some 'concealed' feature of the case, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, that not only forms a further facet of the Medico Legal case but also allows direction of the client towards beneficial treatment. I was a Founder Member, am a past President and remain an active Member of the Warwickshire Medico Legal Society. Having come within a whisker of reading Law as a young man, meeting and engaging with my legal colleagues within the Society is both enjoyable and ,I believe, mutually rewarding.
