Medico Legal Experience

I have been doing personal injury reports since 1998 and clinical negligence reports since my appointment as a consultant at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital in 2000.
EXPERIENCE Trauma I have gained experience as part of a multi-disciplinary Trauma team. I have been an ATLS provider since 1995 and having re-certified in 2001, I am currently an Advanced Trauma and Life Support Instructor. I was responsible for the assessment and initial management of patients brought into the London Hospital on the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. I have regularly led and presented at daily trauma meetings and have gained experience in the organization and delivery of an acute soft tissue and skeletal trauma service. I am familiar with both conservative and operative techniques including internal and external fixation. I have attended an AO course and am currently involved in the management of trauma in a tertiary referral centre. My training has exposed me to a higher than average elderly population and I have been exposed to a multi-disciplinary approach including close collaboration with the Elderly Care and Community Support teams in order to optimize treatment. I am currently an ATLS instructor and teach in both Cambridge and Norwich the principles of the management of the multiply injured to all grades of doctors. General Orthopaedics My surgical training from Senior House Officer to Specialist Registrar has provided me with a wide range of experience in the management of Trauma and Orthopaedic conditions encountered in both British and Australian units. I am currently a consultant orthopaedic surgeon providing both a trauma and elective orthopaedic service. Upper limb I have had a broad based experience in the management of both common and unusual conditions affecting the hand and upper limb from both an orthopaedic and a plastic surgery perspective. I have gained experience from a specialist shoulder surgeon and am familiar with the management of impingement, instability and joint arthroplasty of the shoulder. I am also familiar with diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy of the shoulder. I have worked in specialist hand clinics with expertise in both traumatic and non-traumatic conditions affecting the hand. Much of the treatment of these conditions has been under local or regional anaesthesia in the Day Surgery Unit. As I am now developing my elective interest in the lower limb I am only currently performing simple elective upper limb surgery. Lower limb My training has provided me with a broad and flexible experience of lower limb problems. I have had theoretical and practical experience of a variety of philosophies regarding prosthetic design and fixation and am familiar with the use of a number of different hip and knee arthroplasty procedures. In Australia I have assisted at diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy of the hip, and recognize its indications and limitations. I have worked for several spe
