Awards, Prizes and Research Presentations 2006 Presentation for Royal College Annual Conference (Faculty of Addictions) Cambridge. “Investigation of age related changes in regional cerebral perfusion in opiate dependence using HMPAO Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography.” 2002 Presentation for Royal College Annual Conference (Faculty of LD) Bristol. ‘Learning disability and the white paper: will doctors be able to cope?’ 1998 Trainees Teaching Prize, Academic Dept of Psych., Royal Free Hospitals 1996 Essay Prize for ‘Psychiatry and War’ course. St Bartholomew’s Medical School 1995 Draper’s Foundation Scholarship elective grant Current Research I have an interest in the neurobiology of addiction and my most recent research utilises SPECT technology to investigate age-related changes in cerebral blood flow in long-term opiate users. Dr Pardeep Grewal 6 In this study we identified prominent age-related deficits in frontoparietal networks in opiate dependence. This suggests pathology arising either from cumulative effects of polysubstance misuse, head injury or overdose, or a combination of all these aetiological factors. I also have an interest in public health and policy related to substance misuse. I am current undertaking a review of the literature related to ‘drug-driving’. This remains a significant problem for services and my objective is to influence regional policy.
