Medico Legal Experience
I am an independent psychiatrist specialising in medicolegal work. I have 20 years experience of working in NHS mental health services, including 11 years as a consultant psychiatrist specialising in general adult and rehabilitation psychiatry. I have worked independently outside the NHS for the last 9 years. I currently undertake reports mainly in Family, Criminal and Mental Health Tribunal cases. I also undertake some assessments of capacity. I do not do any personal injury or negligence work.
My expertise is in the assessment of adults with mental illness or personality disorders. I do not usually accept cases where the primary problem is autism, dementia, substance misuse or learning disability, although I will carry out assessments where substance misuse or mild to moderate learning disability are complicating factors in the presence of mental illness.
I am based in the Manchester area and use consulting rooms in Hale, near Altrincham. However I am happy to travel to see clients in Greater Manchester and adjacent areas such as Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire.
In simple cases such as straightforward MHT reports I can usually complete a report in 4 to 6 weeks from instruction. Family cases and other complex work may take longer, typically 2 to 3 months from instruction, sometimes longer in busy periods. I am occasionally able to do work more urgently than this, depending on my caseload at the time.
